We’re getting into the final stretch of the One Room Challenge! If you’re finding me through the One Room Challenge link up, welcome. Over these past few weeks, I’ve been taking our boring bedroom and turning it into a dreamy coastal farmhouse space! Today, I’m going over the artwork I’ve added to the space. PLUS, you can read on to download four FREE Coastal Art Prints for your own space.
Here’s what I’ve done with the space so far:
Coastal Farmhouse Master Bedroom Plans | Fall 2019 One Room ChallengeWeek One: Our Farmhouse Master Bedroom Plans
Week Two: Navy Blue Vertical Shiplap Accent Wall
Week Three: Wall Mounted Bedside Lighting WITHOUT an Electrician
Week Four: Custom Nightstands from a Thrifted Desk
Week Five: Coastal Gallery Wall
Week Six: Coastal Farmhouse Master Bedroom Reveal!
For anyone new to the One Room Challenge, this is a six week challenge where bloggers + Instagrammers makeover a space and share the process! Thank you to the One Room Challenge for organizing the challenge every year! And of course to Better Homes & Gardens who is the official media partner!
Somehow, it feels like most of the work happened this past week – despite it already being week five! I’ve been making changes here and there, but this week was the BIGGEST change. There’s a brand new paint color on the walls! It really took the space from “meh” to “holy crap, this is a brand new room!”
If you’d like a refresher, here’s where we started…

And then I added the Navy Blue Vertical Shiplap Accent Wall…
Things were made even better with the addition of Wall Mounted Bedside Lighting WITHOUT an Electrician and Custom Nightstands from a Thrifted Desk.
As you can see, most changes have been to one wall in the space. So for THREE other walls to get a makeover this week, it feels huge!
I chose the color ‘White Metal’ by Behr for this space. Since I am a very indecisive person, and I get overwhelmed with too many choices. When I went to Home Depot, I was expecting to come out with ‘Chic Grey’. On a whim, I decided to go for this lighter grey instead. Bought a whole gallon of it without getting a sample first – because that’s just how I roll.
When I got home and opened up the can, I almost panicked – it was so. white! And so not what I was going for – but I stuck it out. I put a sample up on a few different spots on the wall to see how it turned out. I LOVED IT! It was touch and go until it was fully dry – but it dries darker than it looks in the can. It is the most beautiful shade of light grey.
Even putting the first entire coat on the wall, I wasn’t 100% sold – but I was 100% committed.
Once it was completely dry, I was in love. The walls were a greenish beige before, and just looked so BLAH. You can see below the White Metal on the left, compared to the old wall color.
All weekend, we couldn’t stop gushing about how much BETTER the room looked with White Metal! Now.. onto the artwork!
Coastal Farmhouse Master Bedroom: Coastal Gallery Wall
I don’t actually have a before photo of this part of the room, because it was a disaster. We used to have a mirror/shelving on top of the dresser (it came with the dresser). It became a dumping ground for everything, so I finally got rid of it. Now that we had wall space freed up, I decided to create a beautiful coastal gallery wall around the TV. As an added bonus – you can download these FREE coastal art prints below!)
I took these pictures on a few different trips we’ve gone on over the past few years. We went to Daytona Beach for a day trip while we were at Disney World in Florida (we got engaged on that trip!). There’s one from Lake Michigan, when we took a weekend trip to Chicago, IL. The remaining two photos are from our honeymoon to California, both from our day at Santa Monica Pier.
I love that we now have little reminders of our travels up on the wall! I have some more art ideas for hanging above the bed, if it ever comes in. If you remember last week’s post, I mentioned that it’s been delayed from The Brick. I should be getting the bed in mid-November now. Hopefully I can give an update to the space in a month or so. It’s just a bummer that it wasn’t here in time for the end of the challenge!
Now.. onto the free coastal art prints!
